This book is a little dark for being a romcom. There’s death of several parents (off-page), mentions of cheating (done by an ex, not either of the main characters), sexually explicit content (including toys and verbal degradation), alcohol consumption and a mention of past drug use, physical injury (torn shoulder labrum) and physical therapy sessions as well as brief mentions of the patient in the hospital.
Mentions of a mafia family, murder being committed in front of a main character (off-page), and removal/clean up of deceased individuals remains.
General Warnings:
Cursing, Death of a Parent(s), Depictions of Sex Work, Guns, Knives, Drugs, Needle Spiking (forced injection of sedative drugs - specifically Rohypnol), Multiple forms of murder (including but not limited to beheading, burying alive, shooting, stabbing, death by explosives, etc.), Blood Play/Knife Play, Branding (with consent), Removal of a Brand (without consent)
IMPORTANT: Trigger Warnings involving Childbirth/Stillbirth, Kidnapping, and Sex Trafficking
In this book, there are several references to a child being stillborn as well as a mother dying in childbirth. They are referenced as happening in the past, but there is a moment where our female main character talks about holding a stillborn child. There are references to a forced/premature c-section. The c-section itself is not described, but it is spoken about as an “emergency c-section” because something was “wrong”. You do find out that the emergency c-section was not necessary, and nothing was wrong with the child before or after the c-section outside of her being premature and having to spend time in the NICU.
Additionally, there are many conversations about children being kidnapped. While the primary child in question is very quickly discovered and has been safe, she was still taken from her mother at birth without the mother’s knowledge.
Finally, there are references to children being bought and sold into sex trafficking, but there are no detailed scenes involving minors. The female main character grew up in a child sex ring, but she does not ever have detailed flashbacks of her time there. All references are kept as general as possible while still relaying that she had an unimaginably difficult childhood.
Please take care of yourselves. No book is ever worth risking your mental health over.
